History & Social Science

Economics / 5 units

Students study each of the three major divisions in economics: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics. Analysis of these areas as they relate to the law of supply and demand is required. In this modern age of computers and instant information, the students are given an opportunity to observe the complexity of a global economy. Students also evaluate the major economic theories of Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes.

U.S. Government / 5 units

Students use problem-solving skills to analyze their civic role within the theory and machinery of American government. The complexity of social issues is studied, and each student is encouraged to seek solutions to those issues in both the domestic and foreign realms. Students are exposed to the constant negotiating and interaction among the world's independent nations and their numerous political units. (Required for graduation)

U.S. History / 10 units

Studying United States history allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the American heritage and discover what it means to be an American. English, French, and Spanish are among the diverse origins of the American people that are explored. With these origins comes the responsibility of growth that has led to struggles of war and peace, both within the Union and abroad. (Required for graduation)

Honors U.S. History / 10 units

Honors U.S. History is designed for motivated students. The major skills required are those of analysis, evaluation, and synthesis. The students will continue to develop higher-level thinking and problem solving skills in order to complete creative writing assignments and oral presentations. In this class, students will draw from and expand their basic knowledge of American history.

World History / 10 units

In World History students examine the origins, developments and contributions of the many rich cultures from around the globe. The students analyze the rise of independence and interdependence among the nations of Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Finally, the students evaluate the role they individually play as part of the multicultural diversity found in today's modern world.
