Community Service To serve others is to put their interests and needs above our own. At Rio Lindo Academy we take God’s calling to be servants to our community very seriously. We live in a world that is calling out for help on all fronts. There are those who need aid during times of disaster and crisis. In our local community, families need help with basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Those in our global community are in need of food and clean water as well as medical aid, education and places to freely worship God. “It is important to remind ourselves again that even in these uncertain times God hasn’t lost control. For followers of Jesus, all these challenges are really opportunities to create imaginative responses that reflect something of God’s loving purposes for a people and a world.” Tom Sine, “The New Conspirators” (Downers Grove, IL, IVP 2008) p. 133 Our community service program is diverse and offers students many opportunities to serve their community using their talents, strengths and abilities. We have ongoing weekly programs that connect students with rescue shelters, food banks, retirement communities, and youth organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and Head-Start. Our large community events are planned around nationally recognized service dates such as National Volunteer Week, National Mentoring Month, Be the Change Day, Join Hands Day and Global Youth Service Day. It is our desire that when students leave Rio Lindo Academy their commitment to serve others will be seen in all aspects of their lives. |
