Work Program
.
Student labor at Rio Lindo Adventist Academy is an integral part of the total school program.  It not only helps to defray tuition costs but also helps to teach responsibility, self-reliance, work ethics, and the value of a job well done.

Rio has great job offerings and many students work more than one job.  The labor coordinator assists students in finding on-campus employment for any student needing to work.  The goal is to place a student in a work area he/she would enjoy.  There are 28 work areas on campus.  A few of the departments include:  cafeteria, dormitories, grounds, administrative offices, library, music department, gymnasium, registrar's office, etc.

Job placement is decided upon based on age, ability, availability and experience.  Each student worker is paid the California minimum wage.  Most students work during periods when they are not in class.  A student's work schedule will depend on his/her class schedule and financial needs.

Work grades are given each nine-week grading period and are based on attendance, performance and attitude.  The work supervisor completes the work evaluation and discusses the results with the student.  A copy of the evaluation is sent to the parents at the end of every nine-week period.

State and federal laws permit that students 14 and 15 years old may work up to 3 hours during a school day and not more than 15 hours during the school week.  Students who are 16 and 17 may work up to 4 hours during a school day and not more than 20 hours a week.
