Boys' Football huddle before a game   Boys' football huddle before a game.
In today’s society educators, parents, and other authority figures are faced with the task of teaching youth certain standards which are needed to succeed. Accountability, integrity, diligence and perseverance are among the most important of these standards. With these principles young people are equipped with the necessary fortitude to endure the hardships of life and be able to remain grounded in their beliefs and values as well as staying focused on life goals.

Unfortunately, many children are not learning these values and, consequently, are being led astray. There are numerous reasons that many of today’s youth are unmotivated and participate in activities that do not promote mental, spiritual, or physical health, as well as hurting their chances of success in the next stage of life.

One reason for the decline of these values and the increase in unmotivated youth is the lack of role models willing to instill moral and social standards. It is our goal in the athletic program to help imbed these principles into our student athletes.

In athletics, students are not only accountable to themselves but also to their teammates. When they are late to practice, fail a class, or simply do not work to their fullest potential they are letting their teammates down. Student athletes have to learn to sacrifice certain wants (playing video games, just hanging out, sleeping in, etc.) for the needs of the group.

Student athletes also learn to become thorough in accomplishing their goals and responsibilities. Whether in practice, game situations, or when dealing with other classes, student athletes must be diligent. Studies show that student athletes generally do better in school than those individuals who are not involved with extra-curricular activities. The reason is simple: student athletes must stay on top of their studies to play, and athletes learn goal setting and goal achieving skills from athletics.

Perseverance is a characteristic which is hard to find in today’s society. Some individuals are afraid to exert total effort when the chance of failure is present. Others will work hard until hardships occur, and then they give up. Our hope in the Athletic Department is to instill perseverance in student athletes so that they may continue to struggle for their goals and beliefs no matter what challenges they may face.

We believe that athletics is a positive aspect in the lives of our students and allows them to gain important characteristics which will assist them in every aspect of their lives. Athletics, when done right, will build integrity, accountability, diligence, and perseverance in each student’s character. Our goal is to help build strong spiritual, mental, and physical young people who will be leaders in our church and our society.
