Learning Resource Center
.
The Learning Resource Center has been established to assist the students who need extra academic assistance to be succesful. Three main components of academic life are addressed in the Applied Arts Classes offered at the Center:
• Language arts
• Math
• Study Skills

In addition to Applied Classes in English and Math, the Center is staffed with teachers who track each student enrolled in the program. This one-on-one support gives students personal accountability with all their teachers.

New students to Rio are given an placement exam to determine the specific needs and strengths they bring to their heigh school experience. This placement test is offered in the summer prior to enrollment and the first week of school. If students' language and math scores are below grade level, they will be placed in the Applied Classes and start receiving the specialized attention that is prepared to help them be successful in school.

The goal for students enrolled in the Learning Resource Program is to attain grade level and transfer into regular classes. If the Learning Resource Program is needed until graduation, the Applied Classes meet high school diploma requirements.

Resources are integrated into the math and language curriculum to help students develop time-management, study skills, and personal life skills; thus, this program assists the Learning Resource students in their total program while at Rio.

“This class has helped me to become a better student, not just in Applied English but in all other classes, too. This will be the first time I will pass English. This gives me confidence and momentum to do better in all my other classes.”
