Application Deadlines
  • May 1 - 1st semester (August) enrollment
  • Oct. 31 - 2nd semester (Jan.) enrollment
All application forms must be complete. Applicants can expect to receive notification of their acceptance or denial from the Rio Lindo Academy Admissions Committee within two weeks following the deadline. When a student has been accepted, an official letter of acceptance and I-20 form will be sent to the student (or agency) via international express mail.

Late applications will be evaluated if space is still available in the international program.

Arrival Information
New international students should plan to arrive on campus the Thursday before registration. An English proficiency exam will be given on registration day to determine the student's level of English comprehension, reading and writing. This test will help the academic counselor plan a successful academic program. If the new international student needs transportation to Rio from the airport, parents need to notify the school with airline, flight number, and arrival time, via e-mail or fax when travel plans have been verified. Rio Lindo Academy provides airport transportation for the international student's first trip to Rio; thereafter, the student takes the airport shuttle service to Santa Rosa, where transportation is provided to Rio.

Student Life
Rio Lindo Academy is an English-only campus. An important part of every international student's education is learning to speak English. To be successful at Rio, students are required to speak only English when they are outside of their own dormitory rooms. Rio accepts and respects students of all religious faiths and backgrounds. However, because of supervisory issues, attendance at weekend religious services and dormitory chapel services is required for all students when on campus. The cafeteria serves three well-balanced vegetarian meals per day, Monday through Saturday, and two (brunch and dinner) on Sunday. The menu includes dairy products and meat substitutes; however, no meat products are served in the cafeteria.

Placement
As part of the registration process, international students will be given an English proficiency exam to help determine which English class they should take. Rio provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to assist students with basic language skills, as well as cultural and academic adjustments. Rio offers three levels of ESL classes: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Upon completion of Integrated English, the advanced level class, students are encouraged to take the English class corresponding to their grade level. Any students planning to attend an English speaking college or university are strongly recommended to take a minimum of one standard English class prior to graduation.

Grade level will be determined by the Curriculum Committee based on transcripts received and results of the English proficiency exam. All transcripts must be submitted with the completed application. Once grade placement has been determined at the beginning of the school year, any additional transcripts will not be considered. Also, refer to the section named Grade Placement mentioned earlier. New international students will be evaluated at the end of the first grading period. If a student receives any failing grades, a change of program and/or school may be recommended.
