What to Bring

To help you plan for a great year living in the boys’ or girls’ dorm, the following is a list of things you will probably need as well as some things you need to leave at home. Make sure you also read the section about Dress/Appearance in the RLAA_Handbook before buying new school clothes.

We have a Wal-Mart and other shopping areas nearby to pick up other necessities when you arrive, if needed.

NOTE: The climate in California has mild weather. During the fall and winter you will need a sweater and/or sweatshirt, a lightweight jacket, and an umbrella.

Things to Bring:

  • Twin (single) sheets
  • Twin (single) mattress cover
  • Pillow
  • Twin blanket
  • Twin bed spread or comforter
  • Sleeping bag (for trips)
  • Clothes basket for laundry
  • Clothes hangers
  • Laundry soap (NO LIQUID BLEACH)
  • Dryer sheets
  • Small fan for the hot days
  • Power strip surge protector
  • Any medication/first aid supplies you may need
  • Toiletry items – Shampoo, body soap, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Bible
  • Battery operated alarm clock
  • Headphones (this is the ONLY way to listen to any listening device or your computer)
  • Command hooks – these are the only hooks you may use on your walls
    (No holes are to made in the walls from hooks, nails, stick pins, push pins, screws, etc.)
  • Poster putty to hang your posters or pictures
  • Shower flip flops/Bath towels/washcloth
  • Helmet if you are bringing a bike or skateboard
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Waste paper basket
  • Small desk lamp
  • School supplies (paper, pens, pencils, 3-ring note books, poster boards for projects, backpack, scissors, USB flash drive, TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator (preferred) for math classes.)
  • A translator (cell phones can not be used in class) for International students only

Extras you might want to bring:

  • Books to read
  • Curtains
    • BOYS DORM = No Curtains allowed
    • GIRLS DORM = room windows are 98″ wide X 53 tall″. If you want to bring curtains be sure to bring your own tension rod, no rods are provided. (No holes may be put into the wall.)
  • Microwave
  • Small fridge
  • Personal items to make your room feel more like home (family pictures, etc.)
  • Sealable plastic containers for any snacks you may bring
  • Computer
  • Cell phone (AT&T is the best cell service, others rarely work)
  • Iron
  • Flashlight
  • Blanket to take to the beach or lay on the grassShower caddy/basket to carry your shower supplies

Things NOT to bring:

  • Video game systems and/or video games
  • Movies, Books, Posters, & Magazines that do not reflect Christian standards
  • Lighters/matches
  • Fireworks
  • Candles
  • Incense
  • Speakers
  • Knives
  • Guns – real, BB, or airsoft
  • Toasters
  • Toaster Ovens
  • Deep Fryers
  • Hot plates
  • Electric Skillets
  • Anything that has a heating coil that you can see
