Faculty Highlight – Jeni Schmidt

This week for Faculty Facts Friday we are highlighting Jeni Schmidt, English Teacher. Jeni Schmidt likes to read. She likes to talk about what she reads. She likes to do research and write about it. As an English teacher and one of Rio’s lead teachers, Mrs. Schmidt believes in the power and importance of quality education. Mrs. Schmidt, an avid animal lover, likes to ride horses and enjoys exercising her two dogs around Rio’s broad landscape. Here are a few more facts about Jeni Schmidt:

Q: What are some small things that make your day better?

A: Small things that make my day better: a student excited about a book, students who “come back” to my classroom library after they no longer have a class from me, a student loving a book I thought they would love, and students growing in their love of books…

Q: How do you relax after a hard day of work?

A: After I exercise my dogs, feed the horses and cats, tuck the chickens away for the night, and manufacture dinner, I relax by climbing into bed and enjoying my latest book find.

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

A: What wouldn’t I do if I didn’t have to sleep! The possibilities are boundless: read, cook, read, brush the dogs, read, clean, read, ride horses, read, order more books on Amazon, read…

Q: If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?

A: Reading

Q: What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?

A: I would love to travel the world, visiting all the great libraries: the Bodleian Library in Cambridge, the Library of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt, the National Library of Singapore, the Jose Vasconcelos in Mexico City, etc…
