On Friday, February 3, Rio’s Lindaires were treated to a visit from Andrews University Director of Choral Studies Professor Stephen Zork. He spent some time teaching, offering helpful techniques, and positive critique. He also took time out to meet with a couple students who had questions about Andrews University and its music program. The singers were grateful to have outside input and affirmation for the work they have put in this year.

Rio’s music director, Rochelle White studied under Professor Zork from 2003-2006 and credits Zork for igniting her passion for choral music.

“Professor Zork introduced me to choral music for the first time while I was in college. Professor Zork’s artistry and extensive musical knowledge allowed me to really enjoy what I’m doing.”

Stephen Zork has been the director of Choral Studies at Andrews University since 1991. In addition to teaching classes related to choral pedagogy, he oversees the graduate choral conducting majors in their responsibilities with the University Chorale. He maintains an active schedule guest conducting choral festivals and lecturing at music conferences throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. Mr. Zork annually organizes and hosts two choral invitational concerts in the Howard Performing Arts Center for high school, community colleges, and university choirs. (Andrews.edu, Biography)

Senior and tenor Jonathan Lin said, “Dr. Zork’s conducting style enabled us to make our voices more powerful and strong.”
