One of the things I love most about Rio is the endless opportunities they offer for new experiences—whether it’s joining a sports team, participating in school events, or even traveling across the world. This year, I was fortunate enough to go on the Europe trip, and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable adventures of my life. To make it happen, I worked hard—saving money and putting in long hours over the summer. It was all worth it. I had an absolute blast and came back with memories I’ll carry forever. The trip opened my eyes in ways I never expected and taught me something deeply important: the value of broadening my horizons.
We traveled through several countries—Portugal, Spain, France, Denmark, and even spent a bit of time in Sweden. Each place had its own unique rhythm, culture, and way of life. One of the most mesmerizing experiences was watching a Flamenco show in Spain. Flamenco is a powerful blend of dance, song, and guitar, and witnessing it in person was nothing short of breathtaking. Even though I couldn’t understand the lyrics, the music carried so much emotion that it moved me all the same.
We also explored a number of incredible landmarks—castles, royal palaces, and awe-inspiring cathedrals. These places brought history to life. One that especially stood out to me was Sainte-Chapelle in France. This cathedral was unlike any place I’d ever been. It had two distinct levels—the lower one felt almost like a medieval dungeon, while the upper level opened into a kaleidoscope of stained glass that reached toward the heavens. Each panel glowed with vibrant color, painting the chapel in a light that felt sacred.
But if I’m being honest, the heart of the experience for me was the food. Sampling dishes from each country was the ultimate way to dive into their cultures. I had the best burger of my life in Spain (seriously, I still think about it). I also tried traditional delights like Spanish omelets, French macarons, and rich Swedish chocolate. But nothing topped the churros in Spain. Unlike the ones back home, these were looped into delicate teardrop shapes and served with thick, velvety hot chocolate. It was raining and cold that day, and the warm, sweet treat hit the spot like nothing else.
I’m incredibly grateful I had the chance to go on this trip. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and into a world of new sights, tastes, and perspectives. Broadening my horizons didn’t just mean seeing new places—it meant opening myself up to the world and all it has to offer.
